World Post Day!
It's World Post Day today! Woohoo!
I haven't heard about World Post Day until today, but apparently it's a day created to celebrate traditional mail and its important role in how we communicate and connect with people all around the world.
World Post Day is celebrated annually on the 9th of October, which is the anniversary of the of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874.
In certain countries, today is celebrated as a working holiday. Although we don't celebrate World Post Day as openly as other countries, Pos Malaysia has issued a special World Post Day stamp collection!
"The letter evokes the fundamental values and mainstay of the postal industry, whereas the digitised lines and shape on the bird represents the modernisation of the postal industry as it continuously strives to evolve and transform to meet the demands of the modern world." - MalaysianDigest
For more information about the stamps and their prices, I encourage you to read the original article from Malaysian Digest.
Now, everyone is encouraged to celebrate World Post Day however they want. In Malaysia, Post Malaysia organized a number of different activities ranging from lucky draws to competition at post offices nationwide.
If you participate in Postcrossing or are just an avid stamp collector, don't forget to celebrate World Post Day with your local post office!
