Golden Rose Velvet Matte Lipstick | Beauty Review

There's nothing like seeing a good deal, taking a leap of faith and finding out that you've not only saved yourself a few bucks but also found a new favourite makeup brand.

I am always on the lookout for good deals online. Honestly, it's a side effect of my job. I literally am one of the first people to hear when a new sale or campaign is coming up and since all I do is browse my company's website (and other online shopping sites) all day, it's hard to ignore the amazing prices....

After seeing so many different types of deals and trying out so many products and services for myself, I can safely say I'm an online shopaholic (help). I'll buy it if I think it's a good deal (everything always seems like a good deal if you can afford it really).

So when I saw these lipsticks going for less than RM30, I shrugged. I didn't know anything about the brand, I didn't know anything about the seller, the reviews were okay and the price was great. So I thought, "Meh... Why not?"

My Review

First of all, I'd like to say I absolutely love this lipstick. I just wish that they had more shades that I could use. Now it's not to say that Golden Rose doesn't have a good selection of velvet matte shades, it's just that most of them are bright colours that do not match my tan skin. If you are fairer than I am, I'm sure you'd be able to find more shades that suit you than I could.

The shade I chose is from their Vamp Series of velvet matte lipsticks in #23.
Their lipsticks have no names. Instead, they are just numbered, which can be difficult to remember.

Below is what the lipstick tube looks like. There is no box. Instead, my order came carefully wrapped in bubble wrap. The tube of the velvet matte lipsticks is made of cheap plastic that is very light. The words Golden Rose, their logo, where it was made and other information are printed in gold ink on the tube.

This is what the product looks like. Please excuse the smudge on the lipstick. That is not the manufacturer's fault but proof of my impatience.

It has a sharp and slightly curved tip which makes it super easy to apply. Especially if you have a defined cupid's bow. Although I'm sure people with larger lips would also appreciate this.

There is still transfer after blotting with a tissue and if you've been eating or drinking and are thinking of touching up your lips, its best to remove everything first and reapply to avoid it looking patchy.
After the lipstick sets, you might notice that the cracks on your lips might be more prominent. Use a little lip balm or lip primer to prime your lips to avoid this or just make sure your lips are moisturized and not dry before applying.
But if it does apply patchy, just blend out the patchy bits with your finger.

The one thing I didn't like was how cheap the plastic tube was. It felt like it could crack easily like my Wet n' Wild lipstick. Fortunately, it has survived my makeup bag. Although, the gold lettering has somewhat faded and scratched off.

Another thing that some people might not like is the fact that it smudges very easily due to its moisturising formula. It also transfers really easily. So if you do a kiss test, you'll leave an imprint.

If you want a true matte finish,  just brush or pat on some translucent powder although you might still get some transfer.

What I Liked

• Easy to blend & has a smooth application (not patchy)
• Good formula (moisturises)
• Comes in various shades
• Has no fragrance
• Affordable

What I Didn't Like

• The cheap packaging (didn't even have a box)
• Lipstick smudges easily

Where Can You Find It?

Qoo10 is where I purchased mine. The price here when it's not on sale is higher than you would find on their Golden Rose Malaysian website. However, if you frequently shop at Qoo10 (like I do), then you can collect points and use coupons.

➤ Qoo10

➤ Lazada

(this is the cheapest listing I found on 11 Street ._.)
