Attack on Titan Live Action Movie Review

First of all, let me just say I have not watched the anime. I've only watched the first episode and I can say I enjoyed it but never continue watching. I don't remember why, but it's probably because I was busy watching something else and wanted to finish it before continuing with Attack on Titan.

So this movie. Where do I start?

Attack on Titan has a mainly non-Asian cast. So the fully Asian cast the Japanese live action movie presented was kind of disappointing. Armin didn't have blonde hair and a lot of people just didn't look like how I imagined. Keep in mind I had no information about the movie or the cast or the story. So casting-wise, it was shit.

Another is the fact that they didn't have Levi in it. Levi is one of the most popular characters from the original anime and manga. Instead, they replace him with a completely new character called Shikishima. Who is a total creep. You would know what I mean if you watched the movie.

Their uniforms and their gear looked pretty cool. It looked pretty similar to the images I've seen while scrolling through Tumblr. So no complaints there. The effects, when they were maneuvering with their gear, was also really good. That was one of the best parts of the movie.

I also really like the colossal titan. Since I've watched the first episode of the anime, I know what he looks like (kinda) and I was looking forward to it. I felt real dread when I saw him peeking over that damned wall with the epic music in the background.

And then..... The titans walked through the hole he kicked in the wall... I don't know how I feel about the titans in the movie. Yes, they are gruesome and creepy and weird. They look just as stupid as the titans in the anime, but I don't know. (;^◇^;)ゝ

I can't talk about the story much, but I know there were a lot of what the fuck moments that made me go щ(゜ロ゜щ). If you've watched the anime or read the manga, then you'd probably hate a couple of scenes in the movie. Let's just say they don't make sense and I don't know why the fuck they even added it into the movie. What were they thinking? I don't know. Were they high when they thought this was a good idea? Probably.

Overall, apart from the what the fuck moments and a few discrepancies in the story, it was pretty good. I really enjoyed some characters like Hanji and the scenes where they were using their 3D gear. However, if you're a BIG fan of Attack on Titan, stay away from this movie. Unless you're a masochist or just really curious.

UPDATE
24 August 2015

Soooooooooo, I didn't go to work last Friday when this was posted cause I was sick. As I was so free, I decided to watch the Attack on Titan anime. I know, I know. I'm 3 years too late. It didn't take me long to finish the anime. I started at 5pm on Friday and finished around 10am the next day. It's a short series with 25 episodes in total.

There's supposedly a 2nd season, but I don't know when it would be released. Anyway, I got addicted. (/_-) So very addicted. In fact, I was SO impatient that I went and read the manga. From the beginning to the current release. Let me just say. WHAT. THE. FUCK. (」゜ロ゜)」

After watching and reading the original work, I can't believe this movie was even made. It was very disappointing. It made me kind of upset actually. It was like watching 'The Last Airbender' live action movie after finishing the whole cartoon. It was VERY disappointing.

Don't watch it.
